McManus Family History
This distinguished Irish surname is an Anglicized form of the old Gaelic Mac Maghnuis or Mac Manus. The Gaelic prefix "mac" meaning "son of", plus the personal name Manus, ultimately from the Latin "magnus" meaning "great", and popular with the Normans who had adopted it in honour of the Emperor Charlemange (742 - 814); Latin name Carolus Magnus i.e. Charles the Great. Magnus was also a popular Scandinavian personal name, and Magnus the Good, King of Norway, (deceased 1047), was named after the Emperor Charlemange. It was the Norsemen who introduced this personal name to Ireland where it later took the form Manus...Select Audience

Colter Kraemer
Frances Toole, I have the family tree of Dominque and Mary, Roscommon, Ireland. Their son Barney was my great grandfather. His son Steve Monroe Manus was my grandfather. When they came to the U.S. they dropped the Mc and the name listed is Manus. Happy to help you follow up on this.

Roger Steven Manus Jr.
Colter Kraemer, Francis Toole, or Donald Manus,
My name is Roger Steven Manus Jr. Of Spencer, Tennessee
My parents were Roger Steven Manus Sr. and Tammy Elaine Brimer.
My grandparents were Ernest Eugene "Gene" Manus and Lela Inez Steakley of Spencer, Tennessee.
Gene's parents were Revedy Manus and Goldie Prater. Revedy's parents were Barney Manus and (I think) Elizabeth Bouldin.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend very much time with my father's side of the family and meet relatives and learn my heritage, and so, sadly this is about all I know and all I can find about my heritage. Any help at all is desperately needed and appreciated, and I am so glad to meet other family members that otherwise I would never know.

I am looking for descendants of John McManus and Bridget Duignan McManus of Greaghnaleva More in Co. Roscommon. My grandmother was Mary Helen or Ellen McManus born in 1889. She had a brother Patrick born in 1885. I am looking for his children andor grandchildren. I think all of his siblings went to the U.S.
