MCHUGH Family History

Recorded in many spellings as shown below, this is a famous Irish surname, although one probably of Manx and maybe Norse origins. Certainly it a derivative of the 11th century Mac Aodha, meaning the son of Aodh. This was a personal name meaning fire, and associated with the pagan god.Aodha. In Ireland the clan was originally divided into two main septs or branches, one at Tuam and the other in Connemara. In the modern era, that is after 1660 at least fifteen spellings of the name have developed, and no doubt others will be dicovered. These include MacHugh, MacKay, MacKea, MacKee, MacKew, MacKue, Mackey, MacKie, MacCoy and the popular short forms commencing Mc...

    We may be related.
I have a Henry McHugh born in 1863 in New Brunswick, Canada, in my family tree. His father, John McHugh and mother, Bridget McCullough, are my g-g-grandparents and my g-grandfather John would be Henry's brother.

According to what I've found, ?Henry married "Plenna G Curtes" (spelling/transcription error?) on July 12, 1906, in Scituate, Massachusetts. He had four brothers and two sisters.  I hope this helps you. Census of Canada 1851 and 1871 may help you.????

    Hello,

My Mchugh Ancester was Sarah McHugh b. ?1848 in Beagh, Inishkeel, Glenties, Donegal, Ireland. I believe her Father was John McHugh and don't yet have her Mother's name. She married Daniel (Tolan) Toland b. 1844 also in Donegal on 02 Aug 1868. It seems a number of Sarah's children settled in the Eastern US around Philadelphia. My GGrandmother is one off her daughters Sarah T. Toland who married WIlliam John Balmer. Also in Philadelphia ?was her Sister Bridget, brothers James J., Hugh and Daniel and possibly more sisters and brothers.

Hello. Looking for information on my great grandfather Henry McHugh. He was reportedly born around 1855-1858 in New Brunswick, son of John McHugh and Bridget McCullough. He eventually migrated South and married Plooma Geneva Curtis and had a son Harry Vernon McHugh. I have not been able to find any birth records in New Brunswick for him. Any help would be much appreciated.

My grandpa, Thomas Morton McHugh, was born c. 1883-1887 in Ballyhaunis, County Mayo. He emigrated to North America around 1911 and then married Alice Kate Maunder in Vancouver B.C. in 1913. My father, Thomas Roland McHugh was born in Vancouver B.C. and then they both moved to Seattle, Washington and became U.S. citizens. I'm trying to locate the exact date and parents names of Thomas Morton McHugh. I think he may have had a sister Bridget or maybe a mom named Bridget. I'm unable to determine which records are truly his.

Hi My name is Bernadette McHugh. Im the oldest of 6 brothers and 4 sisters. The main forename in our family is Myles. Im sure there could also be a link to the McDonald clan in Scotland as my aunt who nursed a lord McDonald said that the name McHugh means son of Hugh of the McDonald clan. Their must be a strong link with Ireland and Scotland. Im sure I have loads of relatives out there.
