My father is Floyd Howard McDermott, an only child born to Howard Brintin and Jeanne McDermott, my grandparents. Howard Brintin McDermott was the only son born to Howard Francis McDermott. Howard Brintin had a sister, Janet, who died as a child from polio. Howard Francis McDermott was born Aug 29, 1876 in Philadelphia, PA and died in Evanston, Cook County, Illinois on Nov 22, 1965. I am looking for his parents, John Lamb and Mary McDermott as well as any siblings he may have had. I know that John Lamb McDermott OR Mary had a sister by the name of Annie Willett. My McDermott clan arrived in the USA from Killarney, Kerry County, Ireland sometime prior to 1876. Because my direct lineage involves the only child of an only child and possible THEN another only child, I am stumped in my search until I can connect linege via great great aunts/uncles.

My Father was Gerard Lavin (1921 - 2000), his Father was William Lavin, whose Mother was Bridget McDermott (1888 - 1939) Bridget's parents, from her Birth Certificate were Thomas & Winifred McDermott. Winifred did not become a 'McDermott' by marriage as this was also her Surname when she was single. William and Bridget Lavin lived in Lancashire in 1901 Census and had 3 children, Veronica, William, Gerard, the latter was my father.

My great great grandfather is Terrence McDermott. He was born in Croghan, County Roscommon in year 1848. He died January 21, 1906 in Munhall Pennsylvania. He married Catherine MacIntyre and had five children Annie, Mary, William, John and Patrick. Terrence died January 21, 1906.

John MCDERMOTT born August 8 1903 ,died December 30th 1950 .age 47 in Toronto Canada .He was my mothers father, he had 4 children Kathleen, John, Betty Anne ,and Patrick My grandfather was from Belfast and had a family before he came to Canada with children ,so my mother has half brothers and sisters.I dont know much about his family and history and my mother doesnt know very much about his life as she was very young when he died. My mother is getting on and i have tried to find some information but as of yet finding it very hard.

I know that on the England 1871 census they lived in Sheffield, Yorkshire. John is listed as being born in 1831 in Ireland, as is his wife Anne but no area is given just Ireland. I have the family as Bridget age 16, Catherine 11, Thomas 15, Patrick 7, John 14, James 3 and Mary Ann is a baby. Address is New Yard, Hawley croft. Any help or suggestions on tracing them back further would be greatly appreciated as I am struggling to locate Bridgets birth. There maybe a connection to Longford. I have a baptism record that gives Anne's maiden name as Nealy but am unsure as to the accuracy. Thanks

Trying to find out about my grandfather as i was yold nothing about him other than he was a watch maker from Ireland. My dads name was Sean Neville McDermott sadly passed away. My dad was born in 1937

Hi John Clark Mcdermott, whose father was Sean Neville McDermott.?I believe you are my cousin. I believe we both share a grandfather whose name was Neville Hanton McDermott who I am also trying to find out about. I can tell you he was a watchmaker or jeweller who lived in South Africa and died in 1961. I have reason to believe he was born in 1893 and that your father and my mother were the children of his second wife. According to my mother, my grandfather was born in County Clare, Ireland - but I have failed to find any official records. Let me know if you are interested in learning more.

My grandfather, Michael James McDermott, was born in Lanesborough, County Longford, in the late 1800s. He came to America, joined the AEF, went back and fought in WWI, then settled in NYC. He retired from the NYPD in the late '50s or early '60s, passed away around 1967 or 1968.

Everything I know of my ancestors is steeped in mystery. I know that we come from Sligo and are apparently decended from prince. but the actual details have not been told to me. There is a family legend that a long time ago a distant cousin was sent a message that he was to inherit a large family fortune. All he had to do was go over to Ireland to collect it. But after visiting a fortune teller who informed him that he would perish on the trip he chose not to go after all...what that fortune entailed, or if the story is even true I don;t know but it's kinda cool having it passed down.

My grandfather Michael McDermott came to the U.S from Ballysador, County Sligo when he was just 19yrs old. his brother John had already immagrated to St. Louis Missouri and sponsered his younger brother Michael. Michael traveled on the ship Majestic in the fall of 1900. he was listed on the passenger log as a laborer and had only 20 in his pocket. I cannot go across town on 20.
