DOUGHTY Family History
The Dohertys are named after Dochartach, the 12th in linear descent from Conall Gulban (d. AD 455), the son of the famous Niall of the Nine Hostages (Niall Noig?allach) the 5th Century High King of Ireland, and namesake of the powerful U? N?ill dynasty. Through Niall, the Dohertys can trace their heritage back even further, making the clan one of Europe's longest descent lines.Select Audience

Doughty
Thomas Doughty born about 1630. Taken prisoner and eventually shipped to New England
Doughty
In Ireland could the surname Doughty, Doty and Doety be a corruption of Dathi, the Irish name for David.
One of the Clans that made up the Kavanagh Clan were the 'McDaveymores'.
Their territory stretched from Arklow in County Wicklow to Wexford Town, between the road R741 and the sea. The area now known as the 'Mackamores'
The descendants of the McDaveymores in northern County Wexford are said to be known now as Davis and Moore.
Could they also have taken the name Dathi-David?
I have not seen the name Doughty or its varients occuring in County Wexford.
Are there many of the Doughty name supposed to have originated in County Wexford.
Regards
Michael Moran.
