DOREY Family History
This is an ancient surname of French origins. It derives from the Latin word 'aurum' meaning 'gold' and as such was in medieval times a metonymic given to a gilder or goldsmith. The term as 'dore' was introduced after the 1066 invasion, and was usually 'anglicised' in its spelling to Dorey, Dorie, Dory and Doorey, from the French Dore, Dorin, and Doree. The name has no connection whatsoever with the fish or the flat bottomed boat called a 'Dory'. This is an Indian word from Honduras, 'imported' into Europe in the 18th century.Select Audience
