DILLEY Family History
This interesting and unusual name is of French origin and is a topographical surname for a dweller on or near a small river in Brittany in the region of "Ille-et-Vilaine". The river name is "Illet", a tributary of the larger "Ille", which runs through Rennes, and is thought to derive from an ancient Celtic river name meaning trickling stream. Topographical names are some of the earliest names to be created, as topographical features, whether natural or man-made, provided obvious and convenient means of identification.Select Audience

Dilley
Hello great site thank you . Can i mention a remarkable man called Gareth dilley 1984 born in barnet north london . Amature boxing career with a amazing 412 bouts . 400 wins and 2 draws. A promising future champ . However was unable to obtain licence from boxing board of control due to a arrest and charge for gbh in 2007 . A fight with several drunk people . Punishment 4 years in prison . He served half and on release joined the royal marines as a private and after some time gained he rank of sergent. He was hand picked by the sbs special forces which is similar to the sas. He served for several years and received many medals during his postings . However in late 2018 he was injured in a night drop by helicopter and broke his spine in the fall . The injury retired him and he was awaeded compensation of 589 thousand pounds which he refused to take . He cashed the money and famously took 67 pennies for him self and donated the rest back to the regiment . When asked why he took 67 pence he said a penny for every foot i fell from the chopper . He was retired but asked back on a part time basis as a military intelligence officer for the ministry of defence which he carries out to this day . Thank you a truely inspirational man and i would love to see him mentioned . Kindest regards
